What's a UUID?

UUID (or GUID) is short for 'Universally Unique Identifier' (or 'Globally Unique Identifier').

It is a 128-bit value used for identification used in software construction. UUIDs are intended to have a high likelihood of uniqueness over space and time and are computationally difficult to guess.
